Good News....

Our March meeting on 12th is going ahead in person as planned, we are catching up with our  competitions

We are also planning to have our 'share a skill'. This has been moved several times over the last two years...pictures to follow.....

Happy New Year to All, but unfortunately not the one we were hoping for! In view of the current Covid - Omicron situation it has been decided to cancel our January 2022 meeting. But we are planning to send a zoom link to our members so that those who want, can have a catch up. Please contact us if you are interested in joining us.

We hope to resume our meetings in March. 

Our September and November meetings were very enjoyable and it was good to see everyone face to face. We also had a really enjoyable talk by Dr Janet Pennington on Cake and Ale. Janet had stepped in at short notice to help her friend who was due to do our talk but who was unable to due to illness.

We also celebrated our 34th birthday. Congratulations to Cathy for her winning entry in our competition the 12 days of Christmas....

Exciting News....

 ....In fact two lots of exciting news...

We are meeting in person on 11th September 2021 Whooooo!!

And we have secured our future at the newly refurbished Lavina House at a price that we can afford. So are meetings there are going to continue there.We are so very relieved. 

Please remember that we are running 2 Jill Moy competitions, one for the cancelled meeting May 2020 titled Vision and the second for May 2021 titled Floral. Please remember to bring your entries along with you to the meeting.

It is National Lace Day, so we are just making lace and catching up with each other. Also hopefully you have had time to sort things out so there will be lots of bringing and buying on our Bring & Buy table.

Looking forward to getting together and seeing everyone in person again.

Our March meeting with our speaker Anthony Poulton-Smith was very interesting explained how our garments got their names, the feedback from our members was very positive.

Hello All,

How are you all in doing in these crazy times? Have any of you had a vaccination yet?

We, the committee, managed to set up our first virtual meeting in the afternoon of what would have been our January 2021 meeting. It was lovely to see and chat to the members who managed to login and join us.

Encouraged by this and the fact that this lockdown looks like it is going to be for several more weeks have we decided to have a virtual speaker in March and another is planned in May via Zoom. We are going to have practice run in February…

So you are all invited to an extra Martlets meeting on Saturday 13 February 2021 at 2.00 pm via Zoom.

I am pleased to announce that our first virtual speaker will be 

Anthony Poulton-Smith

a journalist and author based in Tamworth. He will speak on how articles of clothing acquired their names. Trousers dress, shirt or blouse, etc. 

The meeting to start at 1.45 to give everyone time to login and settle before the speaker starts. Once again details and links to follow in emails after our February meeting, so if you hear nothing check your spam and make contact with us.

Floral to wear

You have not missed your opportunity to enter; we are planning to run the competition in the same way as the bookmark one. If you would like to be in with a chance of winning the bobbin prize please email/send me a picture of ‘Floral to wear’ entry by 1st March and our independent judge will pick a winner.  The winner will be announced in due course...

Opps, I see that I did not update you all via the website about the November meeting, sorry.

As we all expected it was cancelled but I hope you enjoyed your Newsletter. The bookmark competition went ahead and the winner will be announced in the January’s Newsletter…there was also news of a surprise for our members when we are able to meet in person again. We are still uncertain when this will be…we are unable see our January meeting being held at Lavinia House. We will have to ‘watch this space’ as they say for news about our March meeting.

September 2020

Once again it is with great sadness that we have to cancel our September meeting. Lavinia House are not yet accepting bookings. They did not know when we would be able to meet again. I suspect we will probably not meet in November, but we will let you nearer the date. 

We are managing to keep our newsletters going and we hope you are enjoying them but we desperately need articles, so do let us know what you have been up to during the lockdown with pictures, if possible. Also please remember to tell us your lace story and how you ended up joining our group.
