How are you all in doing in these crazy times? Have any of you had a vaccination yet?

We, the committee, managed to set up our first virtual meeting in the afternoon of what would have been our January 2021 meeting. It was lovely to see and chat to the members who managed to login and join us.

Encouraged by this and the fact that this lockdown looks like it is going to be for several more weeks have we decided to have a virtual speaker in March and another is planned in May via Zoom. We are going to have practice run in February…

So you are all invited to an extra Martlets meeting on Saturday 13 February 2021 at 2.00 pm via Zoom.

I am pleased to announce that our first virtual speaker will be 

Anthony Poulton-Smith

a journalist and author based in Tamworth. He will speak on how articles of clothing acquired their names. Trousers dress, shirt or blouse, etc. 

The meeting to start at 1.45 to give everyone time to login and settle before the speaker starts. Once again details and links to follow in emails after our February meeting, so if you hear nothing check your spam and make contact with us.

Floral to wear

You have not missed your opportunity to enter; we are planning to run the competition in the same way as the bookmark one. If you would like to be in with a chance of winning the bobbin prize please email/send me a picture of ‘Floral to wear’ entry by 1st March and our independent judge will pick a winner.  The winner will be announced in due course...

Opps, I see that I did not update you all via the website about the November meeting, sorry.

As we all expected it was cancelled but I hope you enjoyed your Newsletter. The bookmark competition went ahead and the winner will be announced in the January’s Newsletter…there was also news of a surprise for our members when we are able to meet in person again. We are still uncertain when this will be…we are unable see our January meeting being held at Lavinia House. We will have to ‘watch this space’ as they say for news about our March meeting.

That’s all from me for the moment only to wish you all an enjoyable, if unusual, Christmas and a Merry and much improved, New Year.

September 2020

Once again it is with great sadness that we have to cancel our September meeting. Lavinia House are not yet accepting bookings. They did not know when we would be able to meet again. I suspect we will probably not meet in November, but we will let you nearer the date. 

We are managing to keep our newsletters going and we hope you are enjoying them but we desperately need articles, so do let us know what you have been up to during the lockdown with pictures, if possible. Also please remember to tell us your lace story and how you ended up joining our group.

July 2020- Cancelled

I trust you have all been keeping safe, well and fully stocked during lockdown.

I know some of you have been making lace and finishing your Phd's ...projects half done. I hope to see some of these in the next newsletter and when we finally get to meet together again on the project table.

We have taken the decision to cancel July's meeting, for everyones safety.
We are hoping to meet again in September but once again will be following government guidelines.

We had a delightful if slightly reduced meeting in March and the Rev Trevithick's talk 'Work as a Prison Chaplain was eye opening but entertaining...
